| Stallions coaches CJ
Yoder and Brian Yingling spent the weekend of December 1-3, 2006 in
Anglet, France at the finale de la
Coupe d’Europe des Clubs Champions representing the Italian side Asiago
Vipers. The Vipers were defending their 2005 title and were favored to repeat. In pool play, they went 3-0 by defeating two Spanish teams on Friday, Valladolid 5-2 (Yoder 1 goal 1 assists, Yingling 1 goal 1 assist) and Mallorca 5-4 (Yoder 1 assist). On Saturday, they finished the opening round by beating the German club Assenheim 5-0 (Yoder 2 assists, Yingling 2 goals) and then it was on to the semi-finals where they had to face the host side Anglet in front of 1000 screaming, hostile fans. The Vipers fell behind early before coming back from a 3-1 half-time defecit to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the end, Asiago fell to the host team 5-4 in overtime (Yoder 1 assist, Yingling 1 goal 1 assist). On Sunday, Asiago fell short of the bronze medal by losing to Valladolid 6-5 in overtime in the consolation game (Yoder 2 assists, Yingling 2 goals). CJ and Brian had a great tournament. CJ ended up with 1 goal and 7 assists. Brian had 6 goals and 2 assists. Click the links below to read about the games (in French and Italian. It will help your language skills!) and check out some of the photos from the Asiago web site that show CJ and Brian in action. Next time you see them wish them a hardy 'chapeau'! And see if them have a clue what you just said (it is the French cheer to sportsmen for a job well done).
